House hunting

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

Rose and I have been trying to find a house for the last few months or so with varying degrees of luck. We had an offer on a house in Orting but the inspection turned up problems under the house and all said and told it would have amounted to around $10k in repairs that wouldn’t raise the value of the house any.

Recently we have gotten back to looking at houses after having that deal fall through. Today I looked at a house in downtown Puyallup across from Sparks stadium and pretty near the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Here’s a link to the listing. It sits right on the street but has alley access and a HUGE backyard all fenced. It also has a big attic that could probably be turned into livable space adding almost 300 sq. feet to the place. There are things that need to be updated but at the price it is it makes it more viable.

In other news, school is going well … 2 weeks to Christmas break. I just started a new writing curriculum and we are reading and comparing origin myths from Greece and the Navajo.

Rose started back at work so some nights like tonight are guys only at home. I try and keep busy so Oskar doesn’t have time to cry or be bored too much. Who knew I would be trying to type a post to the blog while dancing around with a baby strapped to my front? Maybe I should set up that webcam.

Rose is going to go check out that house tomorrow and then maybe we’ll make an offer on it. It’s in better shape than most of the houses we’ve looked at and it’s at the right price for upgrading later.

PLU

Tuesday, August 17th, 2004

I am so sick of PLU’s atrocious amount of stupidity. The memo that went out to everyone graduating in the summer (bachelor and post-bac degree too) said that you could pick up your cap and gown on Tuesday, the 18th or Wednesday, the 19th. Now, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it should be Wednesday the 18th and Thursday the 19th. Apparently that’s too much for the good folks at PLU. I called the Registrar’s office to complain and ask for clarification but had to leave a message. I thought, “Huh, that’s wierd, it’s the middle of the day in summer and no one is there to answer. Oh well.” Well, it just occurred to me that they are moving offices around and how much do you want to bet that they haven’t moved the phone lines over or announced a change of numbers? This sort of thing is indicative of everything that is wrong with PLU. The really strange thing is that this sort of thing never happened at the UW, an institution a great deal larger than PLU. One might think that the problem of miscommunication and one hand not knowing what the other is doing would be a problem for a large university, not a small one. Of course if you thought this, you would be wrong.

Skillet

Word everybody. The new blog looks good no? Im glad to see this site up and running again and that everyone has big happenings going on. Ive been putting in lots of hours at Nordys and half-heartedly been looking at some schools around here to maybe go back to. I would like to have a degree but at the same time I know that I dont have the intestinal fortitude to get back into public ed. for another 2 years. It was as Wesley Willis would say, “the freakout hellbus.” In any case, things are going well right now. Im just working and saving up money for my next big adventure. This one, I think, will come in the form of a musical act. Im excited. Its going to rock. Big time. More later.
