    Updates

Ahh, nothing like bloggin’ while sitting outside on a nice summer morning.  Oskar is playing in the dirt in his pajamas and a hat (he asked to wear one).  He is talking so much more now and we can understand most of what he is saying.  It’s mostly about “b-ball”, “wawa”, “moma”, “dad”, and “sha-sha” (his way of saying “Lola”) but it’s fun to hear what he has to say and what he’s thinking about.  Speech is good for the obvious reasons of communication but I’ve always wanted to know what is going on in his head; what he’s thinking about, how he feels about something.  It’s exciting to finally begin to find these things out.

We went out on Rose’s parents sailboat this last Sunday with Oskar.  He had been on a boat before but this was the first time he could really experience it, climb around and walk around the deck.  We have some great pictures that we’ll put up on Flickr later.  We sailed this time from the Tacoma Yacht Club over to Gig Harbor, stayed there for a few hours while we had some snacks, Rose and I got to kayak around the harbor, had dinner then sailed back.  The wind going over was strong and we were leaned way over for a little part of it.  I would have been scared if Gerry wasn’t sailing but it was pretty far over.  Once we were anchored in the harbor Oskar got to run around the deck, pose for pictures and climb all over.  The next day when Jody was watching him she taught him some parts of the boat.  He really likes to say “boom”, “bow”, and “mast”.

We leave for San Diego early Monday morning.  We’ll be there through Saturday and be back late that night.  The hope was to get an early flight so Oskar might go back to sleep and then get a late flight coming home so he can fall asleep on the way back.  We’re a little apprehensive about flying with him, especially since he’ll be sitting in one of our laps.  My “Be Prepared” dad book said to get the other passengers to help entertain the little guy so we’ll see how that works.  I’m going to be busy for some of the time but we should have an opportunity to go to SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo (maybe Legoland!) or just hang out at the pool.  Like when I was in Orlando, HP will be footing the bill so we won’t want for food or drinks.  We’ll take pictures and post them to Flickr too either while we’re there or when we get back.  Now that I’m on break I have more free time but I just can’t bring myself to do more online stuff like bloggin’, postin’ or that sort of thing.  I’d rather spend time with my family but I’ll try to maintain a somewhat updated view into our real lives.

    It’s all in the perspective

    Opportunityisnowhere

Depending on how you look at it you’ve either got the world as your oyster or you’re lost and stuck in the present. I’m not saying that there’s some sort of correlation between what you saw first and the way you are but I think it’s interesting to think that although you may think you’re in a deadend it just depends on how you look at things …

      Context…?

    • David 8:42 pm on January 10, 2006 Permalink

No context. Look at the word in bold. There’s two different ways to read it.

    Road Bloggin’

We’re in Windsor, CA right now and getting ready to go sample mucho wine (that’s Spanish for “hella wine”) at the local wineries. Yesterday was a wash because Rose got food poisoning the night before and we spent the day resting up and not doing anything except for a trip to the local Safeway.
We check out on Friday but we don’t think we’ll be coming straight home. We have no reason to get home quickly so we might just camp our way up to Banks Lake where we are meeting Annie & Scott and Kat & Urn next weekend. We’ll put up pictures when we get back, whenever that is.

    Word up, Minnesota!

Here I am in a suburb of Minneapolis before I fly home this afternoon. I got a job with BroadEducation.com providing training for a Microsoft product called ClassServer. They flew me out here on Thursday to go to a training for their trainers so when I get back home I can be called upon to go to schools in the NW and help train their staff.
Tomorrow the family begins the roadtrip down to Wine Country in California with a stop Sunday night in Klamath Falls, OR. We’ll spend a week in the sun (and free wine tastings) and then meander our way back. The weekend after we are camping with Annie and Scott, and Kat and Urn at Banks Lake in Eastern Washington. After that I’m probably going to South Dakota to train some teachers at a school. Two weeks from then school starts back up and there we go again.
Oskar is growing as always and eating like a champ. He is crawling at break-neck speed and getting into anything and everything. We’ll post more pictures to Monkey when we get back from Cali; we have quite a backlog. He is really close to walking and on a few occasions he has stood on his own but when he realizes that he isn’t holding on to anything he sits down.
Rose is making bracelets for a woman I work with, a breast cancer survivor. The bracelets are being sold to hospitals and places all over the NW and the business seems to be doing quite well. Apparently, when I’m gone (and Oskar is napping or sleeping) Rose is able to get an incredible amount of work done at home, I think because she’s glad to finally have the place to herself :)
Every once in a while I get the feeling like I want to post more but given the readership of this blog (?) we’ll see how long this lasts.

    Nice Weekend

For the weekend of the 4th Rose and I went on her parents new boat. New to them and new too, it just got put in the water for the first time a few weeks ago. We were out on the water off Ruston for the air show on the 4th and then went over to Gig Harbor for the night and then stayed there all day the 5th. The weather was perfect and I helped Gerry install a chartplotter in the helm.
    Here’s some pics:

    Leaving Gig Harbor

The week before I went to the Mariners game last Wednesday with Jon and Noah and then the next day Rose and I went with Jeremy and Lynn to Emerald Downs to bet on the ponies. We ended the night up $2.
We had a really nice time. We had dinner, a great view of the race and then fun looking through the race guide trying to figure out who to bet on. We bet a maximum of $5 each time because we were just having fun, nothing serious.

Ok, this is my first post on the new site. I am going to comment on some of the topics below. Jamey, Congrats on the GED that is great. Also, I like Jayden better. David & Rose, nice pictures, and the race track was super fun. Go horsies! Rae is officially signed up for her first swim lessons, she will be racing triathlons with her dad in no time. That is all for now.

    Hello-

I am SO pleased to see the blog site up again. ANd I especially think it kind of you to name it in honor of me and my affliction- which is called, -uh- erm- ah- well, something to do with nouns and memory. Love, Grum

    • David 12:37 pm on June 11, 2004 Permalink

I’m afraid it was named after the affliction that affects a number of the people in our family. I actually found out about it because it is a classification used for special ed kids that I learned about in one of my classes.
