Word up, Minnesota!

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

Here I am in a suburb of Minneapolis before I fly home this afternoon. I got a job with BroadEducation.com providing training for a Microsoft product called ClassServer. They flew me out here on Thursday to go to a training for their trainers so when I get back home I can be called upon to go to schools in the NW and help train their staff.
Tomorrow the family begins the roadtrip down to Wine Country in California with a stop Sunday night in Klamath Falls, OR. We’ll spend a week in the sun (and free wine tastings) and then meander our way back. The weekend after we are camping with Annie and Scott, and Kat and Urn at Banks Lake in Eastern Washington. After that I’m probably going to South Dakota to train some teachers at a school. Two weeks from then school starts back up and there we go again.
Oskar is growing as always and eating like a champ. He is crawling at break-neck speed and getting into anything and everything. We’ll post more pictures to Monkey when we get back from Cali; we have quite a backlog. He is really close to walking and on a few occasions he has stood on his own but when he realizes that he isn’t holding on to anything he sits down.
Rose is making bracelets for a woman I work with, a breast cancer survivor. The bracelets are being sold to hospitals and places all over the NW and the business seems to be doing quite well. Apparently, when I’m gone (and Oskar is napping or sleeping) Rose is able to get an incredible amount of work done at home, I think because she’s glad to finally have the place to herself :)
Every once in a while I get the feeling like I want to post more but given the readership of this blog (?) we’ll see how long this lasts.

Scott is losing his job.
Can you help him find a new one?

New Classroom

Monday, August 16th, 2004

I got keys to my classroom this morning and poked around to see what was up. The teacher who occupied the classroom before me has yet to clean all her stuff out of it including a chinchilla. I made sure it had water. I have a staff retreat on Wednesday in Silverdale and other than that I’m trying to figure out how I should set up my classroom, what color I should paint the walls, etc.

My thesis is done but I have yet to print it out on “the good paper” which according to PLU is 20 lb. and 25% cotton. I picked some up at Office Max but only when I brought it home did I realize it has watermarks which are fairly legible so now I have to take it back and try and find some that don’t have watermarks. The kind I bought was the only kind I found at the store.

I’m also graduating this Saturday and my own wife can’t even make it. She’s the matron of honor in her friend Megan’s wedding. I’m piggybacking on Annie’s birthday party the next day but it’s nothing formal since no one has stepped up to throw a party for me and I helluva don’t care enough to do it myself. Just pour a one that is cold on the ground for me.

Job-y Job

Tuesday, June 8th, 2004

As luck would have it I got a job at the first, and only, place I applied: Surprise Lake Middle School. It’s the school just up the road from my folk’s house in Milton where the track is.
I’m going to be teaching 6th grade Language Arts/Social Studies/(and Reading, I think). I will also probably be taking over the drama activities there that I participated in myself when I went to school there. I’m supposed to be signing the contract this week and then I’ll have my own classroom. I’m so excited!
Rose and I will be talking to mortgage folk soon and finding out what is in our price range now that we know I’ll have an income and now that we know in what area to look!
Of course, I still have the school year here at Orting to finish up (next Thursday is the last day of school), my teaching portfolio to finish, my thesis (!) and a few more classes to take. Obviously it’s good to know that I have the big piece of the puzzle done before I’m done with the program and get my degree.
